PE Lead

At Shefford Lower School, we aim to inspire every child to enjoy being active for life. Through high-quality, inclusive physical education and a wide range of sporting opportunities, pupils develop the skills, confidence and resilience to achieve their personal best and lead healthy, active lives.

What Pupils Develop Through PE

Through PE at Shefford Lower School, pupils develop:

· Fundamental movement skills and physical confidence

· Skills and techniques across a wide range of sports and physical activities

· Teamwork, communication and pupil leadership opportunities

· Resilience, determination and the confidence to achieve their best· Knowledge of rules, tactics, fair play and respect for others

· Positive attitudes towards health, fitness and wellbeing

Our PE curriculum provides a broad, balanced and progressive programme of learning through a range of indoor and outdoor activities across the year.

All pupils receive at least two hours of high-quality PE each week, delivered through engaging and enjoyable lessons. We also encourage children to achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, both in school and at home.

As pupils move through the school, they build on previously learned skills and apply them in a variety of contexts. Children participate in a range of team and individual sports, including both competitive and non-competitive activities, helping them develop physical competence alongside teamwork, resilience and respect.

Sporting Opportunities and Enrichment

Physical activity plays an important role in the wider life of our school. In addition to PE lessons, pupils have opportunities to participate in:

· Extracurricular sports clubs

· Inter-school competitions and sports festivals

· Whole-school physical activity events

· Celebration of sporting achievements through assemblies and school events

These opportunities allow pupils to experience a variety of sports, develop confidence and foster a lifelong enjoyment of being active.
