Welcome To Year 3

We’re excited to welcome you and your children to Year 3! This year is full of exciting learning opportunities, including exploring rocks and soils in science and learning all about the Stone Age in History. We will be developing reading and writing skills across a range of texts, and growing confidence in maths. A big focus in maths this year will be learning and securing times tables, particularly the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, to build strong foundations for future learning. The children have some very exciting extracurricular activities this year that provide a range of engaging learning opportunities, outside of the classroom. Some examples of these are; the trip to Celtic Harmony, swimming and Sing-up. We’re here to support every child in becoming an enthusiastic, independent learner. If you have any questions or would like to know more about what we’re learning, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Year 3 (ID 1122)

Spellings

Spellings will be given weekly. Spelling activity sheets should be taken home every Friday and returned following Friday. Childrens weekly spellings will be in their Home Learning books. Common exception words are regularly tested (half termly) and we ask that you practice reading and writing these with your children on a regular basis.

Learning Logs

Children will receive a table of activities in their Learning Log and will be able to choose different activities to carry out for their Learning Log task. They have the whole half term to complete the activities they choose. Please feel free to present homework in different ways e.g models, art work. Have fun and be Creative!

Reading

We expect the children to read to an adult at home every nightas part of their weekly homework. Children who read each night will receive a House Point the following day.

Times table practice

We expect the children to practice their times tables regularly. Times Tables Rock Stars is a good way to do this and one the pupils will be used to using. House Points will be given for regular use of this resource at home.

 Forest School

Forest School is led by Mr Tilbury and takes place once a week. During these sessions, children will spend time exploring and learning outdoors in the school forest area or at Chicksands Woods.

Children may arrive at school wearing their Forest School clothes and should bring their school uniform with them to change into afterwards. Please ensure that your child wears warm, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy or wet, as outdoor learning can sometimes be messy.

We aim to run Forest School sessions in most weather conditions, so it is important that children have appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the outdoors. Sessions will only be cancelled in the event of extremely high winds or severe storms.
